Mrs Rayner, who represents the constituency of Ashton-under-Lyne commented on the importance of recycling on a visit to the Saica Natur recycling site at Audenshaw near Manchester on 9 March.
And, she also reflected on the importance of local industry.
The shadow education secretary said: “It’s great to see a local firm doing so well in one of the industries of the future – recycling waste into new materials and doing their bit to help our environment.”
The MP was given a tour of the site, which is part of the company’s network in the region, and met with Johan Sundblad, country manager of Saica Natur UK.
Investment
Mr Sundblad said he was pleased to discuss issues affecting the industry with the MP and he highlighted the “continued investment of SAICA into the local economy”.
Mrs Rayner heard about Saica’s “closed loop integration system” with the Natur facility at Audenshaw, the cardboard mill in Carrington, and a packaging centre in Wigan, amongst other locations throughout the UK and Europe.
Mr Sundblad said: ““It is always great for us to show people what we do here at SAICA Natur. It was a pleasure to welcome Angela Rayner to our Audenshaw site which is a key cog in SAICA’s Closed Loop system and a vital part of our continued investment in the UK where we are committed to improving the eco-efficiency of our customers and in turn the local area.”
Natur is the recycling arm of the overall Saica Group, which also incorporates Saica Paper and Saica Pack. All recyclable waste collected and treated at Natur is then reused by the paper and packaging divisions.
