On Monday (22/12/2003), a man died when he fell into a paper shredder at the MW White Waste Paper plant in Ketteringham. The incident has been covered widely in the national press, including reports that the man's 16 year-old son was at the plant at the time on work experience.
Working with the Health and Safety Executive, the police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of his death although it is not thought to be suspicious. A spokesman for the HSE said an investigation was underway with the police.
A statement from the police described the incident as “tragic”. It said: “Investigations are today continuing into this tragic incident at M. W. White Waste Paper in Station Lane, Ketteringham. Officers from Norfolk Constabulary were called to the plant at approximately 9.30 am, Monday, 22 December, following the death of a man on site. The police have not yet released the name of the deceased but he is understood to be a 36-year old man from Norwich. It is expected that the man will be formerly identified until Monday December 29. The post-mortem is being carried out this morning (December 24) at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
