Inquiries into Leicestershire scrap yard death continue

Investigations by Police and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) are ongoing following the death of a worker at a metal recycling site in Leicestershire last week.

Bev Upton, who worked at the Ellis Taylor Metal Recycling in Hinckley, died after sustaining crush injuries at the Leicester Road site on the morning of November 4. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

According to local press reports, the 45-year-old had worked at the scrap yard as a tipper driver and also ran an online retail business. The mother-of-one had been employed by the company for around two years.

Investigation

Commenting on the incident, a spokesman for the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) said it is investigating what happened in conjunction with Leicestershire Police.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “We are leading a joint investigation with HSE. Inquiries are ongoing, it is not being treated as a suspicious death. We are preparing a report for the coroner.”

Established in 1965, Ellis Taylor Metal Recycling specialises in the provision of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap in Leicestershire and the surrounding areas.

When contacted by letsrecycle.com, the company declined to comment on the incident.
