Grosvenor Waste appoints John Viviani as managing director

Paper conglomerate UPM-Kymmene is to lose its UK recovered paper buyer John Viviani, who is to take up the post of managing director of Grosvenor Waste Management.

Mr Viviani will relinquish his position as UK purchasing and commercial manager for Shotton Paper at the end of November, joining Kent-based Grosvenor on December 1.

In his role at Shotton, Mr Viviani has played an integral part in the conversion of the North Wales mill to using 100% recovered fibre. The conversion attracted funding support from the Waste and Resources Action Programme worth about 20 million and saw Prince Charles perform the opening ceremony earlier this year.

His successor will have the most challenging paper recycling role in the UK, needing to ensure the continuing supply of about 650,000 tonnes of newspapers and magazines to the mill for conversion to the 100% recycled newsprint manufactured at the plant. The post is also thought to involve additional procurement for UPM's other mills in Europe and further afield.

It is understood that a successor to Mr Viviani has not yet been appointed, with the company's Finnish vice president for European recovered fibre purchasing set to make an announcement within the next few months.

Mr Viviani said: “I am delighted to be taking up the post of managing director with Grosvenor Waste Management. The company is growing quickly and is tendering for a number of contracts, developing partnerships, looking at acquisitions and is also developing its own infrastructure including the materials recycling facility at Erith.”
