The plant in Hemswell began operating in July this year, handling HDPE and PET plastic bottles, mostly collected through kerbside collection schemes and civic amenity sites nationwide.
” Traceability is becoming a much more important issue with councils and the majority of our suppliers are happy to see the plastic bottles being processed in the UK. “

Technology for the sorting and reprocessing facility was provided by German manufacturer Titech.
AWS process the plastic bottles into pellets that can be used by reprocessors in the UK, with some material exported abroad.
“Commitment”
Company director Lance Newton said: “In opening the Lincolnshire plant, AWS have shown a commitment to processing significant tonnages of post consumer plastic bottles within the UK.”
“With a throughput capacity of five tonnes per hour the plant is the largest of its type in the UK and one of the most technically advanced in Europe.
“Traceability is becoming a much more important issue with councils and the majority of our suppliers are happy to see the plastic bottles being processed in the UK,” he added.
AWS, which has a head office in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, began operating in 2000 and sells waste paper to mills worldwide and steel and aluminium cans as well as handling plastic. The company has secured outlets across the globe for its materials, particularly in the Far East, with an office now open in Hong Kong to handle exports to China.
