Taking place on 18 May at the Landmark Hotel in London, the long-running awards recognise local authorities, recycling companies and individuals that have gone the extra mile in their role.
Applications from councils, waste management companies and the third sector can be submitted until the 11 March 2022 here.
There will be 16 categories in total, with additional opportunities to gain recognition for ‘contribution to tackling net zero’ and a ‘local authority individual or team of the year’ category.
This year’s format will follow that of previous years, where one of the winners of the Metals, Organics, Wood, Plastics and Paper Recycling Business of the Year categories will be chosen to secure the coveted ‘Recycling Business of the Year’ title.

- Paper Recycling Business of the Year
- The Recycling Business of the Year
- Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business of the Year
- Collection Crew of the Year
- HWRC or Civic Amenity Site of the Year
- Health And Safety Initiative of the Year
- The Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative
2021
Last year, the awards were hosted by Channel 4 presenter Kate Quilton.
Organics recycling firm, Severn Trent Green Power was named Recycling Business of the Year, while Meltog Ltd triumphed with the award for Machinery and Equipment innovation of the year.
Other winners in their sector categories were Bright Green Plastics for Plastics Recycling Business of the Year, Shreddal SDS Group for Paper Recycling Business of the Year, and Westminster Waste for Wood Recycling Business of the Year.
Severn Trent Green Power also clinched the prize for Organics Recycling Business of the year.
Previous winner
A year on from winning, Severn Trent Green Power told letsrecycle.com about its growth since: “We’ve welcomed some great new commercial food waste customers into our portfolio as well as securing a new food waste contract with Coventry city council.”
With covid-19 restrictions easing, the company has reflected on how the pandemic affected business.
“We still had high levels of facility utilisation. Since the middle of last year, we’ve seen food waste volumes increasing in our anaerobic digestion (AD) facilities, which is encouraging.
“More companies switched to AD to gain both environmental and financial benefits. This bodes well for the future.”
The company mentioned it looks forward to the mandatory food collections but there is lack of certainty from the authorities regarding the timing and timescales of new collections.
“There is some concern in the sector that sufficient treatment capacity might not be available. Whatever happens, our five composting facilities will be ready.”
Severn Trent Green Power plans to enter the awards again this year:
