Joining the council provides opportunities to shape industry practices and participate in key campaigns and events, including the BBCo’s Sustainable Beauty Coalition which looks to accelerate sustainable practices in the sector.
Steve Carrie, group director of MYGroup, said: “MYGroup is honoured to join the British Beauty Council as its first patron waste management and recycling company. This is a natural next step for our leadership in the cosmetics recycling space and building on our industry collaborations, setting the standard for others to follow.
“We are ready to work arm-in-arm with the Council and its Sustainable Beauty Coalition, sharing our invaluable expertise and insight to help forge a sustainable future for the beauty sector.”
MYGroup currently runs a recycling programme for used beauty and cosmetic products in partnership with BBCo patron Boots – the “Recycle at Boots” scheme.
The scheme provides instore drop-off points for beauty and cosmetic products that can’t go in kerbside collections. The products are then sent to MYGroup in Yorkshire for recycling.
The waste management company also works with several other patrons of the BBCo, including Elemis, Estee Lauder, Johnson & Johnson, Superdrug and THG’s Cult Beauty and Lookfantastic.
Victoria Brownlie MBE, chief policy and sustainability officer at BBCo, added: “We are delighted that MYGroup is joining our growing network of patrons. The collaboration only solidifies our – and other patrons’ – commitment to promoting better practices when it comes to improving the circularity of products across the beauty industry.
“The partnership comes at the perfect time as we celebrate our inaugural ‘Great British Beauty Clean Up’ campaign, which sees MYGroup work with our existing network to enable and encourage consumers to increase what they recycle. We will engage and learn from MYGroup’s insights as we continue to promote increasingly sustainable practices for industry via cross-sector initiatives and government legislation.”
