However, the company dismissed initial news reports in the national media as “ludicrous” for suggesting equipment at the plant was destroyed in the blaze or that the building had been left damaged.
” A minor incident occurred involving the shredder, it was put out by the fire brigade and that was that.“
– Jeff Weeks, Environcom
The fire occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, with four vehicles from the Lincolnshire Fire Brigade called to the site.
The company told letsrecycle.com the fire was a minor one involving shredding equipment, and that business at the 2 million plant will continue as usual.
Environcom technical executive Jeff Weeks said: “A minor incident occurred involving the shredder, it was put out by the fire brigade and that was that. Reports that the plant or equipment in the plant was destroyed by the fire are ludicrous.”
Environcom established the plant in June 2004, as the first of its planned waste electrical and electronic equipment facilities. A second plant is planned for the North East of England later this year.
