Finlay Plant machines ‘boost FCC material quality’

FCC Environment has reported a 50% increase in quality at its limestone quarry in Pontefract since the arrival of two processing machines.

The Barnsdale Bar Quarry in Pontefract is one of six limestone quarries in Yorkshire belonging to Darrington Quarries, part of the FCC Environment Group.

The facility offers “a full range of limestone aggregates for road construction, house building, concrete production and civil engineering”. And, the quarry also takes in inert materials for recycling which contributes to the reduction of material ending up in landfill, the company explained.

Since the arrival of the Terex Finlay 693+ and 694+ from Finlay Plant Northern, FCC Environment says it has seen a 50 % increase in the saleable amount of undersize product, preventing the material being landfilled.

Andy Archer, quarry manager at Barnsdale Bar, explained that he has been impressed with the machines and what they bring to the business.

Mr Arched added: “With a larger and more efficient screening area, we are processing a higher volume of material to a much better quality. We’ve never had so much 10mm product in stock.”

The Terex Finlay 693+ features two 20’ x 5’ screen decks and with a combination of quick wedge tensioning on the top deck and hydraulic tensioning on the bottom.  Finlay Plant Northern says this ensures that “mesh setup and change out times are kept to a minimum”.

Its three conveyors allow FCC Environment to produce a 75mm oversize, a 75mm-40mm clean stone and a 40mm aggregate.

Together, according to Finlay Plant, the machines are powering through 1,400 tonnes of material a day, producing products which then go on to be used for road construction, house building, concrete production and civil engineering.

Mr Archer added: “This means we can now approach different markets as we are confident we can supply them with what they want.”

Finlay Plant Northern, part of the Finlay Group of companies, has worked alongside FCC Environment for around 20 years and has supplied them with seven machines, including impact and jaw crushers as well as screening plant.
