The annual one-day event takes place on Friday, September 7, at the University of Northampton, pitching six-aside mixed gender football teams from around the waste and recycling sector against each other.
Last year saw 30 teams contesting the cup, with Recycling in Action the eventual victors after beating ACM Waste Management in the final (see letsrecycle.com story).
Entries so far received include some of the largest waste management companies operating in the UK, while teams from recycling organisations, local authorities and even central government are also to take part.
Dr Margaret Bates, chair of the Organising Committee, urged any further companies or organisations wishing to take part in the sector's most enjoyable event of the year to send in entries now.
To enter, send 150 words about your team as well as full contact details to margaret.bates@northampton.ac.uk.
After this final deadline for entries for the 2007 Waste World Cup, a Grand Draw will be held to decide which groups each team will play in during the first, group stage of the tournament ahead of the knockout stages.
Accommodation
Speaking to those teams already preparing for this year's fifth annual Waste World Cup, Dr Bates reminded footballers that overnight accommodation at the University of Northampton is available for those requiring it.
She said: “Now you are all well into your training schedules I thought I should let you know that on site accommodation is available at £38.50 for an ensuite with breakfast.”
