Eco Sustainable Solutions invests in GasMix systems

Landia externally-mounted GasMix system

Dorset organic waste treatment firm Eco Sustainable Solutions has replaced rotary submerged mixing equipment at its Parley anaerobic digestion plant, with an externally-mounted GasMix system from Landia.

According to Eco, the retrofit has reduced energy use of mixing equipment by 50%.

Landia’s GasMix was chosen for ease of access and its reduced health and safety risks when the second digester was built, the company has claimed. The digesters’ contents are kept at a constant 410C, with a retention time of 40 days.

Four Landia GasMix systems serve the plant’s two 2500m3 digesters, utilising 18.5kW chopper pumps to generate a total of 700m3 gas per hour.

Trelawney Dampney, Managing Director of Eco Sustainable Solutions said: “Primarily, we chose the Landia GasMix system because all the pumps and pipe-work parts are on the outside of the digesters, so importantly, can be maintained without interruption to our 24/7 process. Since the installation, we have had absolutely no performance or reliability issues, but to see such an improvement in the process by way of increased gas, as well as reducing our energy usage, is a massive bonus. For any AD operator, a proven boost of twelve and a half per cent is very significant”.

UKCM secures contract with the city of Cardiff council

UK Container Maintenance (UKCM) has secured a contract with the city of Cardiff council for the supply of refuse and recycling container services.

UK Container Maintenance is now working for Cardiff city council

The container repair and refurbishment company will now carry out the maintenance of steel wheeled bins and containers, as well as repairing and supplying parts on behalf of the council.

The contract is over a 12 month period with the opportunity of a second year extension.

Tara King, assistant director at the City of Cardiff council, said: “We are pleased to have secured a long-term relationship with UKCM.  Previous work has demonstrated that we can make savings and safety improvements with the refurbishment of containers and in product design and development”

Emma Elston, chief executive of UKCM, commented:  “We are thrilled to be working with the City of Cardiff Council and providing the organisation with our cost-effective services, either completing repairs on-site using our mobile team or at our factory in Cheshire.

“Since working with ESPO, we have achieved further contracts across the UK, enabling us to help local authorities save money in the repair and refurbishment of waste containers, instead of buying from new.”

Weir Waste acquires pre-sort line for MRF

All agreed at Weir Recycling

Birmingham-based Weir Waste has acquired a new pre-sort line to enable quicker process times through the company’s automated MRF.

Weir Waste’s machinery distributor Blue Southern, with the help of sister company BlueMac Manufacturing, have designed, manufactured and installed a tailor-made BlueMac recycling plant. The plant currently processes around 25-30 tonnes per hour, meaning an initial rate of between 180-220 tonnes per day.

According to Blue Group, the plant has also improved reliability, as shredder machinery downtime has decreased since installation.

The plant includes a pause pedal to allow pickers to momentarily stop the picking conveyor in order to break down material. The pedal also alerts operators, via a traffic light system, that the plant has been paused.

BlueMac also designed the plant with the double safety mechanism of a castel locking system, consisting of a main locking key and a further six access keys for risk area. Only when the main key is in the off position and the plant is not operational can a risk area be accessed, ensuring the safety of the maintenance operative.

Brewster’s Waste Management has announced the purchase of its most recent fleet acquisition, a new Bell Equipment L2106E loader.

The company’s services include skip hire, the loan of dust carts and compactors, and weight and load amenities.

The L2106E features a PowerTechTM emissions-certified diesel engine, and highly durable Quad-CoolTM configuration designed to isolate the components away from the engine heat.

Steven Brewster, managing director of Brewster’s Waste explained: “This new Bell Loader is an excellent addition to our fleet. Having had such a positive experience with our previous Bell L2106, we had no hesitation in securing another, newer model, as our success with the vehicle’s design, handling and efficiency was so marked.”

The managing director added: “I’m also impressed with the model’s automatic shutdown facility which prevents the loader from ticking over needlessly, saving energy and resource. Overall, it’s a fantastic loader which I’d struggle to fault.”

BreakerLink announces collaboration with BreakerPro

Online car parts finder service BreakerLink has announced a collaboration with BreakerPro, a provider of breaker yard stock inventory management software.

Justin Smith, managing director of BreakerLink, said the collaboration will allow users of BreakerPro to access request for parts from BreakerLink, potentially opening them to increased streams of revenue and reducing the time that breakers must allocate to the quoting process.

Commenting on BreakerPro, Justin Smith, the managing director of BreakerLink, said: “Essentially the software functions as a stock system. Breakers upload their inventory and then when they download our latest requests, if they have the part in stock, the automated software alerts that a quote is to be sent to the customer. The breaker does not have to worry about quoting on time as the whole process is now automated.”

BreakerPro currently offers integration with online sales platforms including Ebay, VivaStreet.com and Google as well as other market specific portals.

BreakerLink claims the new collaboration will allow second hand parts sellers to sell more stock, with lower overheads for manpower and resources.
