Bobcat launches E57W Stage IIIB Wheeled Excavator

Bobcat has launched a new wheeled excavator, building on the success of its previous E55W model.

The E57W IIIB-compliant excavator is equipped with the Bobcat D24 diesel engine, that delivers a 4% increase in power of 42.5KW and an estimated 7% fuel saving.

The vehicle incorporates an update hydraulic system and improved lift capacity, as well as a long arm option which increases digging depth to 3795mm and a dump height of 4510mm.

Elsewhere, a newly designed cab and operator area features a 7-inch display with fingertip operation of all the machine functions and visibility to ensure a safe workplace.

“It is designed to offer high productivity, excellent fuel economy, enhanced ergonomics, improved reliability and reduced maintenance,” the company said.

Whitham Mills appointed to install JD Sports waste system

High street retailer JD Sports Fashion plc has appointed Whitham Mills to design, install and maintain a new waste management system at its national distribution centre in Rochdale.

The six-figure contract will see Whitham Mills install a 170mm conveyor, transporting waste cardboard to a 20 tonnes-per-hour GB1111FS baler outside of the main building.

Waste streams in distribution centres are identified as a potential fire risk, leading Whitham Mills to design an enclosed baler feed conveyor system which includes an automatic fire door and fire-suppressing sprinkler system.

If activated, the system automatically closes the fire door at the conveyor’s exit point, isolating the fire and allowing the sprinkler system to take control.

Whitham Mills managing director, Ben Smart, said: “At Whitham Mills we take the challenges set by our customers and identify efficient and imaginative systems which respond to their needs. There is rarely an off-the-shelf system which is suitable which is why our engineering know-how is so important to our customers.

“In this instance we’ve designed a system which will supress any fire in a way which will protect stock and allow the distribution centre to return to operations as quickly as possible.”

Whitham Mills secured the contract following a recommendation from JD Sports’ waste management company, Wheldon Brothers, and will also be providing a service contract.

Sesotec GmbH unveils sorting system

Sesotec GmbH will unveiling a new VARISORT sorting system at the IFAT trade fair in Munich from next week, suited for separating solid waste materials.

The new VARISORT sorting system will be on display at IFAT

The VARISORT system, which will be on display at IFAT 2016, is equipped with various sensors and also features the new “SesoDesk” control software.

Sesotec subsidiary KRS Recycling Systems will also co-exhibit the K9 FLASH Octopus glass sorting system.

Depending on the application the housing design of the VARISORT system can be individually configured with various sensors, such as colour / shape sensors for material detection, sensors based on NIR (near infrared) with HSI (hyperspectral imaging) technology, and metal sensors.

Michael Perl, Sesotec head of Sorting Recycling, said: “Due to the expansion of our international activities in the field of Sorting Recycling we know about the demand of our customers for individually matched sorting solutions also in the field of household waste.”

‘Upgraded’ recycling robots to premiere at IFAT

ZenRobotics – described as the world’s first robotic waste sorting system – will also be making an appearance at the IFAT trade fair in Munich.

The recently upgraded ZenRobotics Recycler has new features as the ‘Trainable ZRR’, allowing customers to train the robot to learn new waste fractions.

Rainer Rehn, of Zen Robotics, said the equipment combines unmatched recognition capability of artificial intelligence with flexibility.

He said: “We are witnessing huge interest in robotic waste sorting globally and we’re thrilled to have robots at the show. The waste industry is definitely ready for robots, as operators have realized the potential in creating more value from less waste. This is a technological revolution.”

Mick George selects AMCS system

Cambridgeshire-based waste disposal specialist Mick George Ltd has invested in a new business management system from AMCS to support its growth strategy.

The system will consolidate existing management systems into a single ERP and mobile solution that will run across all the company’s business units – including bulk excavation and earthmoving.

AMCS will also run a ‘train the trainer’ programme to ensure that all users whether office based on-site or drivers are familiar with the system prior to launch.

Commenting on the investment Mick George’s finance director, Jon Stump, said: “Following a thorough market review we felt that the AMCS solution was best placed to support our ambitious growth plans over the next five years.”

“Implementing a single system to manage our transport, materials management and back office activities will enable us to streamline operations, enhance productivity and provide full visibility across the business in real-time.”
