The Kiverco plant was completed in 13 weeks and went into operations in August 2025.
It replaces the previous system which has served since Dunmow Group acquired the site in 2012.
The upgraded facility can now handle up to 600 tonnes of waste daily.
Sam Malins, CEO of Dunmow Group, commented: “This new facility is a major step forward for Dunmow Group.
“It dramatically increases the amount of waste we can recycle and helps us divert even more material away from landfill and towards sustainable Energy from Waste solutions.”
17 dedicated recycling bays
The new plant is equipped with advanced screening and separation technology, aimed at increasing material recovery.
Incoming waste is first sized and conveyed through a series of magnets, screeners and high-precision mechanical sorting units.
The material is then separated into 17 dedicated bays for a wide range of recyclable streams, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stone, hardcore, wood and mixed recyclables.
Specialist picking cabins have also been put in places to aid final quality checks, processing materials for reuse or Energy from Waste (EfW) and Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) production.
The site processes multiple waste streams including hazardous waste, construction and demolition waste, wood, metal and aggregates.
Malins added: “By processing waste streams more efficiently and cleanly, we can support our customers faster and more reliably while strengthening our long-term commitment to sustainability and innovation.”
Fire safety tools
To bolster site safety, the facility incorporates a suite of fire protection systems, including real-time CCTV with people detection and thermal imaging for early fire identification.
Fireward fire suppression systems have also been fitted across all electrical control cabinets.
Alongside the new technology, improvements have been made to the site’s yard layout, streamlining vehicle movements and boosting service speeds for Dunmow Group’s fleet or skip trucks.
