The multi-million pound deal means that Eco will process 60,000 tonnes of Dorset's waste material each year, a figure that is expected to increase by 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes over the course of the contract.

Trelawney Dampney, Eco managing director, said: “This is a tremendous result for Eco and we're absolutely delighted. We were up against some very big players in the industry and I congratulate my team for their hard work in securing this prestigious contract.”

Eco Sustainable Solutions currently processes 140,000 tonnes of waste a year at its main site in Parley, Dorset and is in the process of trying to build an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant nearby (see letsrecycle.com story).

Best value

Hilary Cox, Dorset county council's cabinet member for environment, said that Eco Sustainable Solutions offered the “best value for money for local residents.” She pointed out that dealing with organic waste is a priority for the councils as it strives to meet LATS targets and reduce the amount of waste it sends to landfill.

She added: “We have had a long term contractual arrangement with Eco and we are very happy to be continuing this relationship which has diverted many thousands of tonnes away from landfill.”

The new deal is valid from Sept 16 this year and is subject to annual review from 2016 onwards.
