ReCycle refurbishes second-hand bikes which have been donated by the public and otherwise would have ended up in landfill. The initiative also offers jobs and training to local residents.
The project received a 5,000 landfill tax credit grant from environmental body Enventure via Sheffield waste management specialists, the Parkwood Group.
Des Pearce, ReCycle co-ordinator said: “Thanks to the generosity of the public, we have something for everyone: children’s bikes, ladies bikes, racers, and mountain bikes are all available. We have been staggered by the response we have had so far and appreciate the words of support and encouragement we have received from all sections of the public.
Mark Robinson, community project manager at Enventure, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support this project, thanks to our relationship with Parkwood. Not only are used cycles being passed on to good homes, reducing waste and cutting down on landfill, but the project is helping to bring to improve fitness and protect the environment by promoting a more sustainable form of transport.”
