Cleanaway municipal MD steps down as company restructures

Waste management firm Cleanaway is looking for a new managing director for its UK dry waste and municipal services following the departure of Steve Huxley for “personal reasons”.

Cleanaway's global chief executive, Gerben Westra, has taken over the UK operation while the company recruits a replacement for Mr Huxley. Mr Huxley had been with Cleanaway for three years, previously working for construction firm Balfour Beatty as commercial director.

The change in management comes as Cleanway is going through some restructuring to “maximise opportunities” from the changing UK market.

Caroline Nicholson, Cleanaway's head of corporate affairs, told letsrecycle.com: “We are reorganising the business. Steve left us at the end of last year – we do wish him all the best.”

With the increased importance and complexity of municipal waste contracts as local authorities push for government recycling and landfill diversion targets, Cleanaway is restructuring its dry waste and municipal arm to provide more of a customer focus.

Ms Nicholson explained: “It's an exciting time but a very complex time and following some real successes for Cleanaway in this area, the company is looking to maximise opportunities by reorganising so we can work more to help with our customers' needs.”
