The service, which will also be offered to the company's authorised bodyshops, will be run by motor industry waste specialists Automotive Waste Solutions. AWS will also be supplying data to the Environment Agency on behalf of BMW.
The AWS service has been designed to provide the dealer network with a fully compliant single service contract for all waste collections. As part of the service, BMW has said that it has set a target of no more than 5% of workshop waste being sent to landfill.
Previously, a dealer or bodyshop might have had to contact several regulated waste management suppliers in order to ensure the safe disposal of different waste materials. The new updated service offers a single of contract for all waste streams, collecting everything from oil filters to fluorescent tubes and optimising recycling routes wherever possible.
BMW has said that providing a single point of contact enables dealership to reduce administration, confident in the knowledge that the programme has full legal compliance.
Welcomed
Steve Nash, director of aftersales at BMW (UK) Ltd, said: “I believe our new waste management and recycling programme will be welcomed by our dealers and bodyshops. AWS is a leader in its field and are able to provide a cost effective service that offers clear benefits to our network.
“We have also ensured that AWS puts an increased emphasis on the recycling of waste. Not only is this better from an environmental standpoint, but it also avoids the rising costs and environmental impact surrounding hazardous waste and landfill,” he added.
