Awards for Excellence host named

Television broadcaster and journalist Fiona Bruce is to present this year's Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, it has been announced.

Organised by letsrecycle.com, the awards are supported by Defra and the Environment Agency and seek to recognise the achievements made across the whole sector towards sustainable waste management.

Entries are now invited and involve the submission of about 500 words describing the project or activity being entered, with some supporting information. Winners will be presented with one of the prestigious hand-made trophies made from recycled glass in North Wales.

This year's awards ceremony is to take place at a grand luncheon with champagne reception at the Savoy Hotel in London on October 19. All shortlisted entrants – three for each category – will be given places for the awards ceremony.

Entries are still being sought for all categories of awards:

  • Innovation in design of a waste management facility (sponsored by ESTET)
  • Collection crew of the year (sponsored by SITA UK)
  • Resource management industry and local authority partnership (sponsored by PaperChain)
  • CA Site of the year (sponsored by Transform)
  • Best local authority recycling initiative (sponsored by Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe)
  • Local authority recycling champion (sponsored by Waste Implementation Programme, Defra)
