Plastics recycling firm MBA Polymers has appointed Peter Whiting to its board as a non-executive director, with immediate effect.

The Nottinghamshire-based firm recovers plastic waste from waste streams including end-of-life vehicles, computers and electronic appliances.

Mr Whiting, an Oxford graduate, has previously worked in the technology, engineering and automotive sectors as well as having been chief operating officer, European equity research for the Swiss global financial services firm UBS.

Commenting on the appointment, MBA Polymers chief executive Nigel Hunton, said: We are delighted that Peter has joined MBA at this stage of our evolution. He is a highly experienced advisor with a broad range of skills centred on financial services and technology. He combines financial analysis with strong communication skills and as a non-executive director has a proven ability to bring rigour, insight and integrity to organisations.

Repic chief to head European WEEE body

Philip Morton, the chief executive of the UK WEEE compliance scheme Repic, has been elected as the president and chairman of the European e-waste body the WEEE Forum.

The appointment was confirmed at the groups general assembly meeting in Bucharest on May 16, with Dr Morton taking over from the outgoing president Jos Ramn Carbajosa.

The WEEE Forum is a knowledge and data sharing group formed in 2002 by the major producer-led WEEE compliance schemes. It has around 40 members representing EU countries, plus Norway and Switzerland.

Speaking after his election, Dr Morton said: It is an honour to be elected by the general assembly as the president and chairman of the WEEE Forum board and Im looking forward to continuing the excellent work that has been achieved to date and to working with colleagues and friends from all of our member WEEE producer organisations.

The Recast of the WEEE Directive creates new challenges and opportunities for all stakeholders, major changes lie ahead and I am delighted to be appointed at such an exciting time.

Highlander appoints Michael Toal to lead market growth

Michael Toal, the commercial manager for Northamptonshire-based plastics recycling firm J&A Young has joined export company Highlander Recycling as market development manager.

Mr Toal, who has over 30 years of experience within the recycling sector, has been charged with exploring new markets for the firm in plastics and recovered paper.

The Glasgow-based firm trades over 100 loads every week of recovered material from all over Britain and Ireland, supplying many large paper mills all over the Far East, UK and Europe.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Toal said: I am delighted to be joining the Highlander team in June and I am really looking forward to getting started in my new role as Market Development Manager, primarily overseeing the growth plans of Highlander Internationals new purpose built recycling facility in East Kilbride.

Comply Direct appoints carbon and energy manager

Producer compliance firm Comply Direct has appointed Baishakhi Sengupta as carbon and energy manager.

Her responsibilities at Comply Direct will include the management of sustainability services and will work closely with UK businesses obligated by carbon and energy legislation and regulations to provide audits, procurement services, consultations, help and advice with legislation.

She will also help companies achieve and retain the Environmental Management standard ISO14001 and support the achievement of The Courtauld Commitment carbon mitigation actions for participating companies.
