EMR executive director steps down
Colin Iles has stepped down as executive director and chairman of European Metal Recycling.
Mr Iles’ decision is part of his ‘succession process’ which has seen executive management and governance passed on to a new generation of managers, according to the company.
Mr Iles, who steps down after a career spanning 28 years, will remain at EMR as a non-executive director that will allow his continued involvement at the firm.
He was appointed executive director and chairman in 2012 following the death of Phillip Sheppard, who formed the company. Mr Sheppard’s son, Chris Sheppard, currently serves as group chief executive.
EMR has now started a recruitment process to find a new chairman.

Boughton appoints service & parts manager
Waste vehicle manufacturer Boughton Engineering has appointed Matt Buckley as its service & parts manager based in Wolverhampton.
Mr Buckley has worked in the waste industry for over 30 years, having served in senior management roles for other specialist equipment manufacturers and big hire fleet operations.
Skan Group sales and marketing director Steve Prices said Mr Buckley would bring a ‘deep understanding’ of the sector to his role, including first-hand experience of the pressures and demands facing hire fleet operators.
Mr Buckley added: “I am really excited to be joining Boughton Engineering at such a dynamic time in the company’s history. Currently, the factory is breaking all records in terms of throughput and with that, particularly in the waste industry, goes an expectation that down time is minimal – and that the support systems are in place to respond quickly and efficiently.”
Cromwell restructures sales team
Cromwell Polythene has restructured its field sales team with responsibilities to be shared geographically as well as by market sector.
The move coincides with the appointment of Niall McClintock as business development manager, who will head up sales of the firm’s new packaging division. He will also be responsible for packaging sales in the east of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The packaging division will supply packaging merchants and the industry with a portfolio of general purpose bags from stock, including food grade polythene bags and liners.
Matt Fitchie will be promoted to an external role as business development manager for the north of England after a year in the sales office, calling on cleaning and janitorial distributors, local councils and waste management contractors.
Meanwhile, Richard Rowling continues as head of sales for the waste management division, nationwide, but will now also focus on the west of England and the south-east, adding the cleaning and janitorial sector to his existing responsibilities for local councils and waste management companies. Paul Fleetwood retains his role as national accounts director, responsible for Cromwell’s key accounts.
Cromwell managing director James Lee said: “The reorganisation of the sales team by region will considerably enhance our efficiency and improve customer service at a local level, while retaining an industry focus for those with specialist sector skills.”
