With news on a new development director for Biffa; Cromwell Polythene creating a commercial manager role; a fresh face at Impact Air Solutions; and, a permanent appointment by Brighton & Hove city council

Development director joins Biffa

Biffa Group has appointed a new development director to provide new business strategy and leadership within its municipal division.

Simon Baddeley has joined the waste management company from services company Kier Group where he had been business development director of its housing maintenance unit.

After 10 years as a quantity surveyor working on major road, tunnel and bridge projects around the country, he moved into public sector maintenance as a director responsible for pre-and post-contract commercial activities in the rail, social housing and commercial sectors.

Roger Edwards, managing director of Biffa’s municipal division said: “Simon is a very experienced director whose sector and management expertise will be highly valued in Biffa.

“He and the business development team will play a vital role in helping Biffa to continue building its portfolio of local authority contracts.”

Brighton & Hove confirms waste chief

Brighton & Hove city council has appointed a new director to oversee areas including waste management.

Mr Hibberd’s role has been made permanent

Nick Hibberd is the new executive director of economy, environment & culture and takes the role after job sharing the portfolio with a colleague.

Mr Hibberd will oversee the city’s development and regeneration, the environment including, transport, culture and property and design.

Commenting on his new appointment, he said: “I’m extremely pleased to have been given this vital role permanently and will make sure I further drive forward the council’s plans to boost the economy, environment and culture of this great city.

“I have a wonderful, hardworking and dedicated team who I know will ensure we continue providing great services to our residents.”

Since 2012 Mr Hibberd has been the council’s head of city regeneration and more recently acting executive director of economy, environment & culture.

Cromwell creates commercial manager role

Waste sack supplier Cromwell Polythene has appointed Alistair Hall as commercial manager, a new role encompassing both sales and purchasing.

Mr Hall brings 22 years’ experience in the packaging industry to the Leeds-based company, having previously held senior positions at British Polythene Industries (BPI), Intelipac and Bunzl.

He has worked in sales for the past five years, first with Intelipac, where he was responsible for a range of high volume imported polythene and paper packaging items, and then with BPI, where he managed and developed retail customers, introduced a premium quality range of recycled polythene refuse sacks and looked after retail sales.

During his early career he spent 14 years in the purchasing department of supermarket Morrisons.

James Lee, Cromwell’s managing director, said: “I have known Alistair since he worked in Morrisons’ packaging division. His management and industry experience will be invaluable in strengthening and building on our position as one of the leading polythene companies in the UK and I am confident that he will make a significant contribution to Cromwell’s.”

Recycling business manager joins Impact

Impact Air Systems has appointed André Matula as business development manager for recycling.

The Leicester-based company specialises in providing equipment within recycling plants which use air for material separation and dust control.

Mr Matula will focus on developing new working relationships within the recycling market both within the UK and overseas. He has many years of experience designing, negotiating and selling recycling plants around the UK.

Impact sales director, Dave Lansdell, said: “We have worked with André on numerous projects in the past and he has the ability, enthusiasm and vision to further develop our work in recycling and we’re delighted to welcome him on board. We have ambitious targets set for the next few years and we will continue to provide innovative solutions with cost savings for the operator at the centre of our focus, we believe André will play a vital part in helping us achieve those goals.”
