Simon Weston joins CPI

The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) has appointed Simon Weston as its director of raw materials.

Mr Weston, who has 20 years’ experience working in the paper industry, has held roles including managing director of the Smurfit Kappa’s raw material procurement arm Midlands Paper Recycling.

He also served in a similar role at the solid board box maker Kappa Corby, and was asked to lead the newly consolidated Smurfit Kappa Recycling in 2005.

On announcing Simon’s appointment, CPI director general David Workman, said: “I am delighted that the CPI team has been further strengthened by Simon’s appointment.

“He brings a huge amount of knowledge and experience with him which will be put to good use in championing paper recycling in the UK.”

Eco makes promotion at Weymouth depot

Eco Sustainable Solutions’ has promoted Tomasz Wiwer to the position of site supervisor at its Weymouth depot.

The promotion comes a year after Mr Wiwer joined Eco Parley’s depot near Christchurch as a site operative, initially shredding green waste.

In his new role, Mr Wiwer is responsible for the running of the Preston Beach Road depot – which was developed in partnership with Weymouth & Portland and Dorset councils and opened in 2009.

The site is permitted to accept up to 18,000 tonnes of green and wood waste from Dorset county council and commercial firms in the local area.

Commenting on the appointment, Trelawney Dampney, Eco’s managing director, said: “Wherever possible we try and promote from within. Tomasz is a hard-working and valuable member of our team who I know will do a great job for us at Weymouth.”

Environmental Resource Group appoints MD

Paul Gatcliffe has been appointed as managing director of hazardous waste specialist Environment Resource Group, after 12 years with the company.

Mr Gatcliffe originally joined ERG in 2003 as business development director and was subsequently promoted to managing direcotor of Chemtech Waste, the firm’s waste management division.

Commenting on this latest promption, Aron James, chief executive of ERG, said: “Paul has been pivotal in the development and substantial growth of our business. His management style is hugely inclusive and he has a real passion for creating lasting and valuable relationships both with our staff and our clients.

“He’s exceptionally knowledgeable about the waste industry and keen to ensure that ERG makes a positive impact on our environment by diverting as much waste as possible into the circular economy.”

In conjunction with Mr Gatcliffe’s appointment, Andy Williams will take up the strategic role of ‘Resource and Disposal’ director at the firm.

These changes form part of the overall strategy to merge the individual divisions including Chemtech Waste, Envirosol and Blendcheck into a Group structure.

Addition to CDEnviro European team

CDEnviro has announced the addition of Tom Speth as business development manager for Germany.

Mr Speth joins the firm’s European team as a qualified environmental engineer and will continue to develop the CDEnviro portfolio in the German municipal waste water market.

The company has become an established supplier in the UK water utility industry on top its gully waste, food waste and road sweeping activities.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Speth said: “The CDEnviro products are proven to deliver highly efficient screening and rag removal for a range of waste water processes within the UK market and we know there is excellent potential and appetite for these systems within the German market following our appearance at IFAT 2014.”
