Already the location for a new plastic reprocessing plant being developed by Closed Loop London (see letsrecycle.com story), the area has now become home to a new two-year business support programme, run by market development organisation London Remade.
” We will be talking to businesses in London to find out what they need. “

As well as helping businesses use more recycled materials, the 750,000 programme will lay the groundwork for establishing 100,000 tonnes of new reprocessing capacity at two new plants in Dagenham.
A spokeswoman for London Remade told letsrecycle.com that the organisation had not yet identified which materials the new reprocessing capacity would be dealing with.
The spokeswoman said: “That is what we are going to research through this programme – we will be talking to businesses in London to find out what they need.”
Deprivation
Commencing in May 2006, the new support service will particularly focus on helping businesses in areas of urban deprivation. This will include companies in surrounding areas in East London including Barking, Bexley, Greenwich and Havering – areas which qualify for “Objective 2” European regeneration funding.
London Remade said its service would improve resource efficiency in the consumption and production of materials and products for both businesses and social enterprises. It is aiming to provide support for around 350 organisations in the target area and create 70 new jobs.
