About the role
Wiltshire Council has entered into a number if significant waste and recycling contracts for the collection and management of waste and recycling from 220,000 households, covering household waste, mixed dry recycles and green waste, as well as the operation of waste facilities such as waste transfer stations, a new materials recycling facility and a network of household recycling centres.
The Waste and Recycling Manager (operations) will be the primary lead on the day to day operational management of the contracted waste and recycling collection under new contracts which commenced in 2018.
As Waste and Recycling Manager (operations) you will understand the contract and specification intimately in support of the team’s work in ensuring services are delivered as per the contract specifications and challenging our providers accordingly.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring all health and safety compliance issues are regularly considered and be familiar with all relevant waste legislation and will be expected to serve the community by providing senior service management advice and support the Community Area Boards, parish and town councils and partners in the provision of local waste and recycling collection services.
Key responsibilities will include:-
- Motivating, leading, developing and managing multi-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of the council’s statutory waste services.
- Managing the development and delivery of services to defined policies, standards, business plans and strategies and ensuring procedures are in place and adhered to.
- Support the delivery of projects to encourage further recycling and waste reduction.
- To develop and promote recycling and waste minimisation services.
- Investigate and resolve complaints from the public.
- To oversee and help assemble, maintain, review and report accurate service data.
- Monitor the use of household waste and recycling bins.
With a degree level qualification or relevant experience, you will have knowledge and experience of working in a a professional role within waste and recycling services.
The successful candidate must be able to interpret the contact and evidence to understand complex issues and make informed decisions and have experience of producing technical reports and briefing papers using plain English.
We are looking for a great communicator, with a track record of building successful working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and ability to motivate others. A proven ability of prioritise and problem-solve in a fast-paced work environment will be key.
