This is an exciting opportunity for two Senior Technical Officers to drive a project developing a team auditing waste Brokers and Dealers, using Duty of Care and associated regulations such as Transfrontier Shipments (TFS) and Hazardous Waste. The posts are temporary with the potential for permanent roles depending on successful outcomes.
Working with a Team Leader you will set up processes, identify opportunities to work with other parts of Agency, help to train and support a team of Regulatory Officers targeting high risk Brokers and Dealers. The project will achieve regulatory compliance, provide advice and guidance to industry where appropriate and improve intelligence across the Agency.
You will:
- Be innovative, creative and flexible
- Provide technical support
- Lead on complex audits with the support of Regulatory Officers
- Work with other areas of the business who also regulate these operators such as local Area Teams, Producer Responsibility, International Waste Shipments and the National Enforcement Service
- Drive the operational delivery of the Project
- Provide coaching and training to others
- Have understanding of the Duty of Care Regulations and waste movements in the UK
The team
These posts sit within a new Brokers Auditing Team, in Waste Industry Regulatory Services (WIRS), in National Operations. We are building a high performing team that delivers priority technical work, regulating industry, supporting waste regimes, providing intelligence to the Carriers Brokers & Dealers regime and other waste regulation teams.
Experience/skills required
An understanding of waste compliance, environmental regulation of the waste industry and our enforcement processes.
Effective at influencing, persuading and communicating, you’ll have a strong customer and partner focus. Delivering results through others from across the business and partners.
Technical leadership and delivery are essential along with:
- working independently, organising yourself and your workload
- ‘owning’ your role; initiating tasks, setting high work standards and delivering
- planning, managing and delivering complex tasks to deadlines
- building/maintaining effective relationships
Being comfortable with dispersed working
Additional useful information
Office base is flexible. You will need to be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. The role will require travel to London, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol and other locations.
Length of contract – until 31/03/2024
