SFS to overhaul Richmondshire waste fleet

Richmondshire district council is to overhaul its waste and recycling collection vehicle fleet following the award of a contract to fleet management company Specialist Fleet Services (SFS).

The contract includes the roll-out of a new fleet comprising five Dennis Eagle Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCV’s), three Terberg Kerloaders on DAF chassis and one NTM 15 tonne RCV on a DAF chassis.

Specialist Fleet Services will also run maintenance services, which will be coordinated by Dennis Eagle’s North East service centre in Coundon for five years.

Delivery

Richmondshire district council, which covers a total area of 500 square miles, has confirmed the vehicles will be delivered just before Christmas 2016.

Councillor Tony Duff, spokesman for Richmondshire District Council, said: “We are pleased to be entering into this contract as it represents best value and will enable us to move to a new programme for collecting household waste and recyclates.

“The new vehicles will also enable us to increase the types of recyclates we can collect, particularly more cardboard and varieties of plastic.”

Specialist Fleet Services based in Northamptonshire has worked with the council for the past decade, and this is the third time it has been successful in winning the tender.

Bob Sweetland, managing director, SFS said: “One of our greatest achievements is our success in retaining our customers, but it also speaks volumes when we win these tender bids on merit alone. We go to great lengths to understand our customers’ individual operational needs and use our in depth knowledge to add value where possible.”

Waste

Earlier this year Colin Dales, corporate director of Richmondshire District Council, said the authority wants to “maximise” the amount of waste recycled across the district (See letsrecycle.com story).

The authority has its mixed dry recyclables processed by Middlesbrough-based Ward Recycling as part of a three-year deal.

The deal announced in February 2016 sees around 8,000 tonnes of mixed dry recyclables from Richmondshire and Hambleton district councils separated at the firm’s South Bank materials recycling facility.
