Members of the winning Barclays team were from the division within the bank that is dedicated to working with companies in the waste management, recycling and environmental sectors and also the department responsible for dealing with the Bank’s own waste management and environmental policies.
The clinical finishing of Barclays' Jag Shoker was key to the team winning this year's tournament, with Mr Shoker's 12 goals winning him this year's Golden Boot trophy as the tournament's top-scorer.
Despite bringing no substitutes for the six-aside tournament, Barclays won through the group stage of the competition beating the likes of Severnside Recycling and waste management firm Onyx.
The knock-out stages saw the eventual champions victorious over the Environmental Services Association – the industry trade association of which Barclays is a member – as well as consultancy Enviros and Lincolnshire county council in the semi-final.
Strong
At the end of the one-day tournament, team captain Richard Nuttall accepted the trophy from letsrecycle.com editor Steve Eminton. Commenting afterwards, Mr Nuttall said: “We're over the moon. It's been a tough but enjoyable day and we've come up against some very strong teams, but thanks to a sterling effort from us all, it's an honour to take home the Waste World Cup.”
