Thornton’s recycling site fires
Thornton’s Recycling, founded in 1979, operates a range of waste management and recycling services across Ireland.
In April 2025, a major blaze broke out at Thornton’s Civic Amenity Facility in the Dunboyne Industrial Estate in Co Meath.
The Park West site itself also suffered a serious fire in January 2021. That incident forced the facility to remain closed for almost 10 months, with Thornton’s receiving a €12.1 million insurance payout as a result.
These very issues will be at the heart of discussion at the Fire and Health & Safety Conference, taking place on 23 October 2025 at the Hallam Conference Centre in London. Bringing together regulators, operators, and safety experts, the event will explore case studies, prevention strategies, and the latest innovations to help the industry strengthen its resilience – secure your early-bird ticket here.
