Stirling-based Snowie had been one of the UK's largest privately-owned waste management companies, owned by the Snowie brothers Malcolm, Alistair, Gordon and Euan as well as their mother Sheila.
The company has grown from agricultural roots to achieve a turnover of 30 million in 2004. It employs over 300 people across the UK.
The Snowie Group is principally involved in treating, processing and recycling organic wastes to agricultural land for many of the UK’s major water companies, brewers, distilleries and food processors.
In recent years the group has diversified its interests with the establishment of dry waste recycling facilities at Grangemouth as well as warehousing and storage facilities in Scotland and England.
Oran Waste UK is also privately-owned, and forms part of the property development firm Oran Group of Cork, Ireland.
Management
Commenting on the sale, managing director Rick Fitzgerald pledged to continue operating the Snowie business as usual with the current management team. But, he said new investment would be made in growing the business, including the installation of new equipment.
Mr Fitzgerald said: “Oran Waste will continue to operate the business as usual and the existing senior management will all be continuing in their present positions. We very much look forward to growing the business further especially in the provision of modern latest technology waste management facilities throughout the UK.”
Snowie managing director Malcolm Snowie said: “We are delighted to have concluded a sale with Oran which like Snowie is a private family owned company who we know will continue the successful track record of growth which we have achieved over the last 20 years.
“The Snowie family will be working with the Oran Waste directors for an extended period of time to ensure a smooth handover and the continuing growth of the business. We are retaining ownership of our farming operation and Northern Hydroseeding Limited as well as our overseas business interests,” Mr Snowie said.
