The agreement means that the network will be able to provide more advice and practical support to organisations across the UK that want to set up paint reuse projects. It will also help it to broker deals and partnerships with national organisations whose members need paint for redecoration.
Last year, the network's 63 members collected 450,000 litres of paint from household waste recycling centres, retailers, decorators and the paint trade (worth £1.75 million) and redistributed 250,000 litres to charities, voluntary groups, community organisations and individuals/families in social need.
Under the new agreement, Dulux will continue to promote Community RePaint by including information about the programme on its colour cards, on point of sale material in DIY stores and on the back of Dulux branded paint containers. Community RePaint has also updated its logo to include the strapline ‘Dulux, proud sponsor since 1993' and Dulux has added information about the programme to its website under the new section ‘Greener Choices'.
Mark Gregory, Community RePaint project manager, said: “This is great news for Community RePaint and means we can spend more time concentrating on support for individual projects, as well as network development.”
Sue Vel, environmental projects manager for Dulux, added: “We have supported Community RePaint over many years and are delighted to help it step up to the challenges of consumer waste paint management.”
Last year 400 million litres of paint were sold in the UK. Of this, Community RePaint estimates that approximately 56 million litres is unused, stored in homes or garages or just thrown away.
