Contenur to build first UK factory this year

Contenur has announced plans to build its first UK waste container manufacturing plant, and hopes to have the facility in Knowsley, Merseyside, operational before the end of 2020.

The Spanish-owned firm is one of the largest companies in the market in the production of waste containers, and already has three other production plants in Spain, Poland and Brazil.

The 56,500 m2 factory in Knowsley will have the capacity to manufacture more than 600,000 containers a year, and Contenur said this would allow the company to offer shorter delivery times to its UK clients as well as a “competitive, local service”.

This will provide customers with more agile, flexible and sustainable solutions, Contenur said. The new facility also includes 5,300 m2 of offices with 47,000 m2 of factory space.

Commitment

In a statement given to letsrecycle.com, Iñigo Querejeta, CEO of the Contenur Group, commented: “We have been present in the UK market for 25 years and have built a successful business and extensive customer base that values our products and high levels of service.

“We felt it was time to take our commitment to the UK business to the next level by building an industrial facility that will not only enhance our performance on all levels but also enable us to grow together with our clients.”

Founded 35 years ago, Contenur designs, manufactures and markets plastic wheeled bins and underground refuse systems.

The company says it has been committed to the “core values of market leading innovation, highly respected product and process quality, a sustainable approach to the environment and development on an international scale”.

The new opening – included in the company’s strategic development plan – aims to enhance the impact of the group’s core values, Contenur said.

This includes a commitment to local production and staff, proximity to key customers and markets,  quality, and environmental sustainability.
