Biffa subsidiary acquires north Scotland recycler

According to Biffa, the deal expands the Group’s footprint in northern Scotland and strengthens Hamilton’s presence in the C&D sector.

It also positions the Group to capitalise on new opportunities linked to investment in ports and renewable energy projects across the Highlands.

Commenting on the acquisition, Robin Stevenson, Managing Director of Biffa’s Construction & Demolition Division, said: “Northern Recycling is a fantastic addition to the Group.

Biffa acquired Hamilton Waste and Recycling in 2023.

The deal included the entire share capital of the company and welcome the 100 strong team into its collections business, along with 49 vehicles and 1,400 new customers including construction groups, restaurants, and local authorities.

Hamilton Waste and Recycling processes over 135,000 tonnes of material annually.

Northern Recycling Solutions

Founded in 2006, Northern Recycling Solutions has nearly 20 years of experience serving the Highlands.

The company’s waste management premises are equipped to handle, sort, bale and store recyclable materials, whilst also offering wheelie bin, skip hire, processing services and high security confidential shredding.

It also provides food waste, waste electrical and hazardous waste services.

The company has strong links with the local community and longstanding customers across sectors including whisky production, healthcare and construction.

Each year, Northern Recycling Solutions processes around 8,000 tonnes of material, with capacity to grow further.
