The Council of The Recycling Association has appointed Craig Robinson as the organisation’s next chief executive.

Robinson, who has almost 25 years’ experience in the recycling sector, will join the association on 1 June 2026 and will work alongside current chief executive Paul Sanderson before formally taking over the role on 17 August.

Speaking about his appointment, Robinson said he was looking forward to representing the association’s members.

He commented: “The Recycling Association has always been successful at giving its members influence with Government and regulators, at organising fantastic networking events and being a source of information for member companies.”

“With a lot happening for our members right now and in the coming months and years, The Recycling Association will continue to support them under my leadership.”

TRA’s new president welcomes Robinson

The appointment follows the announcement earlier this year that Sanderson will leave The Recycling Association in August to become Chief Executive of the UK Cleaning Products Industry Association (UKCPI).

Robinson brings extensive experience across the recycling industry, having worked particularly in recycled paper and cardboard, as well as glass recycling.

In recent years, he has held positions with Visy, Sibelco and Cyclelink.

He has also previously served on the governing Council of The Recycling Association.

The Recycling Association’s newly appointed President Colin Clarke added: “I’m delighted to welcome Craig to The Recycling Association and look forward to working with him during the next two years of my Presidency.

“Craig’s experience having worked for, and run, member companies will mean he will understand from the beginning the challenges they face.

“At a time of huge change, we needed someone who can take over from Paul and hit-the-ground-running, and I’m glad we will have a good transition period so Paul can pass on as much of his knowledge as possible.

“I’m confident that Craig will be a superb chief executive of The Recycling Association and I’m really glad that he has decided to join us.”
