Sanderson confirmed he will leave the organisation in August to take up a new position as Chief Executive of UK Cleaning Products Industry Association (UKCPI).

He commented: “I have been at The Recycling Association for over three years and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

“I’m proud to have guided our members through a very turbulent time where regulation and legislation has been heaped on them. There is still a lot on the way too.

“The Recycling Association is very lucky to have such a great membership, and there are a lot of people who have become friends and not just colleagues.

“I’m also very lucky to have worked with brilliant people including the past two Presidents Craig Curtis and Celine Grant, and the current VP and soon to be President Colin Clarke. Many of those who have served on the governing Council have also been supportive.

“After 22 years involved in the recycling sector in some capacity, I’ll still be dipping my toe in, but from the producer side of things at the UK Cleaning Products Industry Association. I’m excited to take over there, working with its team, and of course its members, from August.”

Sanderson added that he remains focused on his current responsibilities, noting on LinkedIn that “there is still a huge amount of work to do at The Recycling Association before I head off in the summer.”

Before joining The Recycling Association, Sanderson worked as Managing Director of market intelligence at Hanicke Robins Sanderson.

He has been in the sector since 2004, with a background in journalism including his tenure as Editor of industry publication MRW.

Founded in 1975, The Recycling Association represents more than 160 recycling organisations and waste management companies across the UK.

The organisation has confirmed it is now recruiting for a new Chief Executive Officer, with applications set to close on 24 April 2026.
