Seven vie for North Somerset contract

Seven waste management companies are bidding for a contract for North Somerset council which includes recycling and the management of CA sites.

The bidding process follows an earlier decision by the council to scrap its original tender for waste management and recycling work in the area.

Councillors found that the original proposal would cost substantially more than had been budgeted for. The closure of a local landfill site had contributed to the costs with waste having to be transferred further away.

Now the seven bidders are to put in their prices for the work by the end of this week. They are: Biffa, Churngold, Cleanaway, Cory, SITA, Viridor and Wyvern Waste.

A decision could be made by the end of the year.
