CIWM Fellowship is the organisation’s highest level of membership and recognises professionals who have made a significant contribution to the resources and waste sector through their leadership, expertise and commitment to the profession.
To be eligible, applicants must either have been Chartered members of CIWM for at least seven years or have over 11 years’ experience in the sector, including five at a senior level.
Sarah Poulter, Chief Executive Officer at CIWM, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Gareth and Nik as Fellows of CIWM. Fellowship recognises not only professional achievement and leadership, but also a commitment to sharing knowledge and giving something back to the sector.
“Both have made significant contributions to resources and waste management through their professional work and wider involvement in the industry, and their Fellowship is thoroughly deserved.”
Gareth Rollings

Rollings is Head of Waste at West Sussex County Council, Chair of LARAC and a board member of Recoup.
He became a Chartered Waste Manager in 2017 and joined LARAC in 2020, becoming its Chair in January 2026.
Commenting on the announcement on LinkedIn, Rollings said: “Almost 21 years ago, I joined the waste industry by luck, having left school with no qualifications.
“Becoming a Chartered Waste Manager in 2017 was a big deal for me. Joining LARAC in 2020 and taking over as Chair in January this year has also supported my growth as a manager.
“Now, becoming a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) feels like another important step in my journey.
“I’m proud of how far I’ve come, especially when I think back to where I started.”
Rollings said he now looked forward to supporting and developing the next generation of waste and resources professionals, while working with CIWM to help shape the future of the profession.
