Funding released for next phase of repaint scheme

Environmental consultancy Save Waste and Prosper (SWAP) is calling for community groups, charities and voluntary organisations to join the next phase of the Community RePaint programme.

Community RePaint schemes collect leftover paint from householders, DIY retailers and painters and decorators to give to community projects. Paint distributed through Community RePaint schemes has been used for a wide range of projects including decorating community centres and painting housing for homeless people. There are currently 43 Community RePaint schemes running in the UK and another 21 schemes are due to be launched this year.

Voluntary and community groups are now being invited to apply for funding for the latest phase of the five year national expansion programme which will see 90 Community Re>Paint schemes set up by 2005. The Community RePaint National Network Programme has funding from Biffaward, ICI Dulux and the Community Fund (formerly the National Lottery Charities Board).

Successful applicants will receive a 3,000 capital grant, technical advice and practical support to establish a RePaint scheme. They will also get publicity support and training for their staff. Applicants will have to launch their scheme by April 1 2003 and must be able to support the project in the long term.
