Former Polkacrest owners snap up Ecovert

The two original owners of Polkacrest, which is now owned by SITA, are back in the waste management industry with the purchase of the municipal contracting business of Ecovert Ltd.

Ecovert was the environmental services division of SAUR UK Ltd which is based in Camberley, Surrey and owns South East Water. The acquisition by the brothers Simon and Jon Miles, through Sevenoaks-based Verdant Capital Ltd, sees the purchase of Ecovert Ltd which has some 460 customers, 250 staff and generates revenue of 11 million. The Ecovert name will continue to be used by Verdant under licence from Saur.

The main focus of the business to date has been municipal authority contracts for recycling, waste collection and street cleaning.
Current contracts include Camberley in Surrey, Anglesey in North Wales and transfer station work in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Simon and Jon Miles told letsrecycle.com that they had plans to “develop the business and would like to see the turnover grow.” They also see the current strengthening of prices for local authority contracts as encouraging. “The market is hardening at the moment and it is the right time to enter.”

The brothers sold Polkacrest to London Waste in 1998 which was sold on to SITA in 1998 for 9.7m. No figures for the purchase of Ecovert have been released.
