Lancashire Constabulary say they were called at around 12.20pm following a report of an industrial accident at Woods Waste in Peel Road.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Constabulary told letsrecycle.com: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this sad and difficult time.”

Neither the man’s age nor identity have yet been disclosed. A joint investigation between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the police is underway.

An HSE spokesperson said: “HSE are aware of the incident and are jointly investigating with Lancashire Police.”

Woods Waste declined to comment when contacted by letsrecycle.com.

Woods Waste

On its website, Woods Waste describes itself as an independently owned and managed business which delivers a “mix” of waste management solutions throughout Blackpool and the surrounding area.

The company operates two facilities for the disposal of inert materials, including one in the hamlet of Westby, to the south-east of Blackpool, at one of which the incident occurred. Its second site is located just outside Kirkham in Lancashire.

Woods Waste says it can also accept large or small quantities of active waste at its Westby site.
