LARAC announced Ms Taylor’s appointment today (23 March) alongside several other changes to the staff who will take the organisation forward from May.
Current interim CEO John Coates is to become head of external affairs, while the London Borough of Merton’s Mariana McManus joins as support officer.
In a statement, LARAC said: “We had to plan a new structure for LARAC to ensure all the key member services continue to be delivered and so we would be fit for the future.
“It was also the opportunity to build in some changes that had been identified in our strategic business plan to increase our staffing resource and resilience.”
Ms Taylor has been the North West’s representative for LARAC since July 2002. She has held “all the positions in LARAC”, finishing with four years as chair from 2018 to 2021 (see letsrecycle.com story).
Having left her job as waste and recycling coordinator at Pendle borough council, Ms Taylor will now be responsible for services supporting members, growing LARAC’s membership, supporting the running of the executive and the board of directors, and working with Mr Coates on strategic plans.
External affairs
Mr Coates became interim CEO after Lee Marshall’s departure to CIWM last December (see letsrecycle.com story).
Mr Coates is a former vice chair and treasurer for LARAC and has held senior positions in waste management at both unitary and county councils.
He will now be responsible for representing the organisation’s views in the media, engaging with external stakeholders and national governments, managing the internal policy team and consultations with members, and “ensuring LARAC’s voice is heard on the key issues and challenges we face”.
Support officer
Ms McManus joins LARAC from Merton council, where she was a principal policy officer.
In her role as support officer, she will work with Ms Taylor to provide member services, help plan conferences, maintain and develop the website, and provide support to the LARAC executive and board of directors.
