Councils in Suffolk have received a 3 million boost for their recycling and composting activities from the Government’s 140m National Waste Minimisation and Recycling Fund.
The money will be used to introduce kerbside recycling in Mid Suffolk and to expand programmes in Forest Heath and St Edmundsbury.
More than 65 delegates attended a conference last week to discuss how to set up the network and plan its activities.
Joan Girling, the county’s executive member for sustainable environment, said: “It is one of the county council’s key priorities to recycle more household waste and reduce the amount going to landfill.”
She added: “We are very pleased with the response to our recycling conference. If we are to reach the targets set by the Government then we need to involve the community in our efforts.”
