The two companies both released statements on Tuesday (July 9) revealing that talks are ongoing, with a conclusion expected to be reached shortly.
In its statement, SITA UK said: SITA UK is very pleased to announce that it is in advanced negotiations with Tradebe Environmental Services Limited to form a joint venture clinical waste business.
This new company will combine the two clinical waste management divisions of SITA UK and Tradebe to form a business that will provide a focused national offering to both England and Wales.
Spanish owned Tradebes clinical waste division was formed in January 2011, with the purchase of Doncaster-based Britcare, in a deal worth in excess of 3.5 million. The company then strengthened its healthcare offering with the purchase of Ecowaste Southwest, which is headquartered in Avonmouth, in August 2012.
Tradebe
‘This new company will combine the two clinical waste management divisions of SITA UK and Tradebe to form a business that will provide a focused national offering to both England and Wales.’
SITA UK
It currently operates from sites in Doncaster, Birmingham and Bristol, as well as operating the Fawley hazardous waste incinerator in Hampshire, and has a licensed treatment capacity of 35,000 tonnes per year. Clients include a number of NHS trusts, as well as hygiene customers and pharmaceutical organisations.
The company also offers services including solvent recycling, waste management for the oil and gas, chemical and utilities industries and oily sludge treatment and processing.
SITAs healthcare waste division, which operates sites in Redditch, London, Sevenoaks and Stafford, specialises in the collection, treatment and disposal of clinical waste from organisations including hospitals, clinics, dentists and nursing homes, from locations nationwide.
Treatment
The company operates three high temperature incinerators for the treatment of high-grade clinical waste.
Its portfolio grew significantly in December 2009, with the integration of specialist healthcare waste treatment firm Polkacrest, which it gained following the acquisition of shares in LondonWaste by the North London Waste Authority in November 2009 (see letsrecycle.com story).
Both companies are members of the Sanitary Medical Disposal Services Association (SMDSA), the trade association for healthcare waste treatment companies.
