A new commercial waste and recycling company has launched in Yorkshire following the acquisition of an established skip hire business.

Leeds-based Velo Recycling, which began trading in December 2025, is headed by Harvey Mills, founder of Forge Recycling, which was acquired by Biffa in 2022.

The company has now completed the acquisition of Yeadon-based SBT Skip Hire as part of plans to build a business across the region.

The acquisition, completed in June 2026, brings together Velo Recycling’s commercial waste ambitions with SBT Skip Hire’s local skip hire operation and transfer station.

SBT Skip Hire has operated for more than 20 years, providing skip hire services to households and businesses across Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate and the Wharfedale Valley.

The company also operates a fleet of skip and roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vehicles.

Velo Recycling said customers would continue to receive the same local service while benefiting from additional investment and resources following the acquisition.

The company added that integrating the two businesses would strengthen its offering and support its long-term growth plans across Yorkshire.

Despite only launching last year, Velo Recycling said its senior management team has more than 70 years of combined experience in the waste and recycling sector.

The launch also marks Harvey Mills’ return to the industry three years after the sale of Forge Recycling to Biffa.

The business now operates from depots in Leeds and Yeadon and offers a range of waste management services, including skip hire, commercial waste collections and recycling services for businesses across the region.

Commercial waste expansion

Alongside the acquisition, Velo Recycling is expanding into commercial waste collections with a dedicated fleet of trade waste vehicles serving businesses across Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Harrogate, Huddersfield, Halifax and Brighouse.

The company provides a range of waste containers, including trade sacks, wheelie bins, front-end loader (FEL) containers, roll-on/roll-off containers and skips.

Velo Recycling said all collections are carried out using its own fleet of vehicles to maintain service quality and reliability, while recyclable materials are collected separately and processed at licensed facilities.

Its recycling services also include collections for mixed recycling, food waste and glass bottles, with routes designed to provide regular collections across Yorkshire.
