RWM has unveiled its keynote panels for its 2026 conference programme, with senior figures from across the waste and resources sector set to discuss some of the industry’s biggest challenges.

The event will return to the NEC Birmingham on 16-17 September as part of the wider Environmental Services and Solutions (ESS) Expo, bringing together more than 400 exhibitors from across the waste, recycling and resource management sectors.

Organisers said this year’s programme is designed to address the strategic, regulatory and operational issues facing the sector, while providing a platform for knowledge sharing and innovation.

Panel discussions

The agenda includes multiple panels for the waste sector, including a session bringing together senior executives to discuss investment priorities, regulatory change and the transition towards a circular economy. The session will include:

  • Marc Angell, Chief Financial Officer, Biffa
  • John Scanlon, Chief Executive Officer, Suez Recycling and Recovery UK
  • Neil Grundon, Chairman, Grundon
  • Anna Willetts, Partner and Environmental Criminal Lawyer, GunnerCooke
  • Rory Brien, Head of Municipal Treatment, FCC Environment
  • Mark Burrows-Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Encyclis

The Collections and Transport theatre will also host a session on Digital Waste Tracking  ahead of mandatory legislation due to come into force in October 2026, featuring:

  • Jake Kingsley, Operational Readiness Lead, Defra
  • Stuart Hayward-Higham, Chief Technical Development and Innovation Officer, Suez Recycling and Recovery UK
  • Triinu La Caille, Head of Sustainability and Compliance, Mitie Waste and Environment
  • Steve Brown, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Wastrio

A session on preparing for Deposit Return Scheme is additionally scheduled for the second day of the show, including:

  • Carla Brian, Public Affairs and Partnerships Director, Biffa
  • Patrick Brighty, Head of Recycling Policy, Environmental Services Assocation
  • Sondre Henningsgard, Vice President Business Development, Tomra

Specialist sessions

RWM is also set to host exclusive insights from the likes of Eleanor Williams, Head of Strategy at PackUK, providing an update on the work being done by the organisation’s technical committees on current packaging reforms.

Steve Molyneux, Director of Energy and Resources at the Environment Agency, will also present a session outlining a “10-Point Plan for Tackling Waste Crime”, discussing the agency’s recently launched strategy to strengthen enforcement against illegal waste operators.

Meanwhile, CIWM President Vicki Hughes will join a discussion on “Women in Waste and Recycling”, focusing on improving diversity, inclusion and recruitment across the industry.

ESS Expo

RWM forms part of the wider Environmental Services & Solutions (ESS) Expo, which is expected to attract around 16,000 visitors across the two-day event.

Organisers are encouraging waste and recycling professionals to register for a free ticket ahead of September, with exhibitors including PackUK, Suez Recycling and Recovery UK, Veolia and Dennis Eagle already confirmed.
