A total of 15,500 companies will receive the questionnaire, asking which issues they face with regard to reducing their waste generation. The questionnaire also provides a forum for businesses to express the types of service they would like to receive from the county council to help them reduce the amount of waste they produce or improve recycling rates.

Oxfordshire recently appointed a new commercial waste reduction officer, Susan Kent, and this has enabled the county council to focus on business waste concerns that have yet to be tackled.
Greater contribution
Ms Kent said: “We would like to help businesses make a greater contribution. There are many ways we can make life easier for them and save them money in the long run. This questionnaire will give us an invaluable insight into the current state of affairs and will help us plot a way forward. I look forward to seeing the results.”
The waste management team is hoping that as many businesses as possible complete the questionnaire. In doing so, the council hopes to be in a position to help businesses save money by reducing their waste disposal costs.
Councillor Anne Pursue, the council's executive member for waste management, said: “It is a very positive move on the part of the county council to create a position of commercial waste reduction officer. This is a service that we don't have to legally provide. This shows our commitment to reducing waste in the county.”
