New Shanks MD set to merge two divisions

Shanks Group has announced the promotion of Ian Goodfellow to the new post of managing director of its UK operations.

Mr Goodfellow originally joined the company in June last year from SITA as director of collections, recycling and transfer for the waste services division of Shanks.

He is now to head the waste services division and also the other Shanks UK division of chemical services.

Shanks is now planning to change its UK structure and instead of having the two divisions, they will be merged into one under Mr Goodfellow. As a consequence, Shanks has announced the redundancy of Colin Brown, formerly managing director of the chemical services division. A Shanks spokesman said: “Sadly Colin is no longer with the company as the position is now redundant.” The waste services division has not had a managing director since last summer when Jim Meredith left the post.

Commenting on Mr Goodfellow's appointment, Shanks Group chief executive Mike Averill said: “Ian will shortly be announcing plans for the integration of Shanks Waste Services Ltd and Shanks Chemical Services Ltd.” He added that this development, together with other organisational changes, would “enable improved competitiveness for the UK division.”
