Investigation after fatality at UK Wood Recycling site

A male member of staff died on Friday (December 19) following an incident at the UK Wood Recycling facility in Grangetown, Middlesbrough.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police today (December 22) confirmed that an individual had died after an accident last Friday at 12.50pm but the identity of the deceased had not yet been released. Local press reports suggest the man was accidentally hit by a vehicle.

It is with great sadness that we have to report on the death of one of our valued members of staff following an incident at our Grangetown site

She said: “Cleveland Police is still investigating the incident. It is routine for us to be involved early on in an investigation.” The spokeswoman explained that the police were still waiting to pass on details of the incident to the Health and Safety Executive so it could carry out its own investigation.

Sadness

A spokesperson for UK Wood Recycling said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we have to report on the death of one of our valued members of staff following an incident at our Grangetown site on Friday. We are extremely shocked and saddened by this incident and would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family.

“At this time we are unsure exactly how the incident occurred. An investigation is being carried out by the police and the Health & Safety Executive and we will of course do everything we can to assist with that.”
