With both deals having been completed last month, First Mile said that the acquisitions have added significant scale to its national and London capability.

UK-based waste broker Greenzone was founded in 2007 and services large enterprises and organisations across the UK.

First Mile said that its service levels, technology and account management have driven significant growth and high customer retention which drew the waste management company to the acquisition.

Its team will join the First Mile group.

Louise Taggart, CEO of Greenzone, said: “We believe that First Mile is the perfect partner for Greenzone, together we will drive growth, innovation and sustainability while enhancing customer experience through cutting-edge technology.

“We are excited to partner with a bCorp like First Mile to support the next phase of our journey.”

Albion Waste is an independent waste collector based in London where it has operated for over 20 years.

Its customer base includes UK high street brands, waste brokers and SMEs.

Alex Taylor, founder of Albion Waste, said: “After 21 years building this business from the ground up, it’s time for a new chapter.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved – turning a small company into a respected name in waste collection.

“As the business moves forward under the ownership of First Mile, I’m confident the values we built it on will continue to guide its future.”

Joe Allen, chief commercial officer at First Mile, added: “We are delighted to have acquired both businesses, who share our drive to delivering amazing customer service and value.

“We are also thrilled to welcome the brilliant Greenzone team into the First Mile group. We look forward to working with all of the staff, customers, and suppliers to help in our mission to help the UK reduce and recycle more business waste.”
