Cory acquires commercial waste business Waste Hire Services

Waste management firm Cory Environmental has acquired the commercial waste collection business Waste Hire Services.

With offices in Telford and Bury, the business specialises in “ad hoc” waste collections from commercial and industrial organisations. The company has an annual turnover of about 12 million with 1 million of assets.

Waste Hire Services provides collection services on an outsourced basis, and trades under brands including Skippy Nationwide, Dusty Bin and Wells Fargo.

Announcing the move today, Cory said that the business has a substantial share of the market and will be important for Cory's ambitions in the commercial/industrial sector because of its nationwide coverage of services.

The business already serves high street and blue chip companies through outsourcing work to sub-contractors, Cory told letsrecycle.com, and should allow Cory to provide services to clients of its parent company, the logistics firm Excel.

Commenting on the acquisition, Cory chief executive David Riddle said: “The purchase of WHS positions Cory at the centre of the commercial and industrial waste and resource management sectors.

“This important acquisition strengthens our commercial service and enables Cory to provide waste and recycling collections at a national level to the UK’s largest businesses, many of whom are already customers of Exel plc, Cory’s parent company,” Mr Riddle added.

John Phillips, managing director at Waste Hire Services said he was pleased to be transferring with the business after the buy-out. He said: “I believe that this move will accelerate the growth of the organisation and will offer greater opportunities for development of our staff and our subcontractors.”
