The system consists of two mobile units for primary and secondary shredding of wood waste. The manufacturer says that this system eliminates high wear and tear that can be associated with conventional one pass machines. The primary shredder, a Hammel 750, first splits the timber. The two counter rotating low speed shafts can process up to 40 tonnes per hour of material from a mixed feedstock.
Following primary shredding, the wood is passed through ferrous and non-ferrous separation devices to remove all heavy metals before being processed in a high speed shredding rotor to give an end particle size of between 20-100 mm depending on specification.
Colin Wilkie, sales director, commented: “Hammel already has a large market in mainland Europe for its wood recycling systems and they are fast becoming accepted as the cost effective alternative to hammer mill shredders.”
